President-Elect | Elena Olmstead, Grandview School District
-
Why she's running for President-Elect:
I am running for President-Elect because I want to contribute to the continued growth and innovation of the Washington School Public Relations Association. I’ve been a member of WSPRA for six years, and have watched the organization grow, adapt and innovate. I want to be part of that. Over the years WSPRA has given me a place to turn to when I have questions, a long list of colleagues to reach out to who are always ready to help and a place to belong. I want to ensure our group continues to grow and continues to be a place where people in our school communications community can look to for support and guidance.
Personal Bio
Elena Olmstead is the communication manager for the Grandview School District. She is a Grandview native, and a graduate of Washington State University’s Edward R. Murrow School of Communication. She graduated in 2000 with her degree in Communication Journalism. Following graduation, she started her long career in newspapers, working at various papers throughout the Yakima Valley and Columbia Basin. In 2011, she answered a call from her local superintendent and started working with the Grandview School District. She became a full-time staff member in 2016. Elena currently lives on a farm with her family in south Grandview. She’s married to her high school sweetheart Doug, and together they have two children – Anna and Charlie. Charlie is a freshman at Grandview High School and Anna is a seventh grader at Grandview Middle School. When not working, Elena enjoys reading, watching reality tv and cuddling with the family cat – Tabitha.
WSPRA has had a huge impact on her career in school public relations. The professional development she has received has been invaluable, but it is the network of people that she can call on when she needs help, inspiration, or a commiserating ear, that encouraged her to step into the role of President once more. Her goal is to continue the work of the Board in delivering excellent conferences that fit the needs of WSPRA members and further the efforts of building our membership.
